West Midlands Fire Service has issued a series of warnings as firefighters deal with multiple blazes across the region. The incidents are spread across Stourbridge, Kings Norton, Druids Heath, Solihull and Castle Vale, with some causing evacuations and injuries.
Stourbridge Fire Near Garage and Homes
A blaze has broken out near a car garage on Norton Road, Stourbridge. Huge flames were seen not far from nearby homes, with dozens of firefighters dispatched to the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service has also sent crews to Stourbridge as the fire led to residents being evacuated.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Our crews are currently in attendance at a fire on Norton Road, Stourbridge, alongside colleagues from West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service. Please avoid the area where possible and allow emergency services to respond safely and effectively. Thank you for your cooperation."
Former Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb OBE commented on the ongoing blaze, saying: "Traffic is backing up around the area now. The smoke and ash are reaching right into the town."
Castle Vale Bungalows Engulfed
A huge blaze has broken out in Birmingham, sending black smoke billowing into the sky. Flames have engulfed two bungalows on Tangmere Drive in Castle Vale this afternoon (August 13). The blaze started in one of the bungalows before quickly spreading to the neighbouring property.
The station commander said his crews were mobilised to the incident at 1.30pm, with a total of around 30 firefighters rushing to the scene. There were two casualties, he said, but they had escaped the properties before fire crews arrived. They were being treated by paramedics.
Druids Heath and Kings Norton Fires
Firefighters are currently responding to multiple fires across the local area, including incidents at The Dell in Druids Heath and along Hillmeads Road in Kings Norton. Crews are on site managing the situations.
Emergency services are advising all residents living nearby to keep their windows and doors firmly closed to avoid smoke inhalation. People are also being asked to avoid both areas where possible to allow emergency vehicles clear access to the scenes.
Solihull Fire Blocks Road
A fire has begun on Lyndon Playing Fields in Solihull. Gilbertstone Avenue is currently blocked as a result. The fire service is urging the public to stay away from all affected areas and to follow the advice of emergency crews on site.
