Winson Green murder trial jury discharged, relisted for 2027

The murder trial of a man accused of stabbing a 28-year-old in Winson Green has been halted after the jury was discharged for legal reasons. Birmingham Crown Court has relisted the case for a new trial to begin on June 7 next year.

Imran Khan, 40, of Edward Road, Balsall Heath, denies charges of murder and possessing a knife in public. The charges relate to the death of Hozar Ali, who was stabbed in the chest on Wood Green Road, Winson Green, on February 23 this year.

Prosecution case opened this week

Earlier this week, the prosecution opened its case at Birmingham Crown Court concerning Mr Ali's death. However, the jury was subsequently discharged due to legal reasons, bringing the initial proceedings to an early close.

Following the discharge, the court relisted the trial to take place on June 7 next year. A pre-trial review has been scheduled for April 2 in the lead-up to the new trial date.

Next steps in the case

Mr Khan remains on remand as the case progresses. The new trial is set to hear the full evidence against him, including the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing on Wood Green Road.

The pre-trial review in April will allow the court to address any outstanding legal matters before the full hearing commences in June.
