Woman Faces Arson Charge Following Birmingham House Fire

A 38-year-old woman has been charged with arson after a house fire at a property in Birmingham where four children were inside the building.

The incident occurred at a home on Deykin Avenue in Witton on Monday, November 17, prompting a major emergency response.

Emergency Services Response

Fire crews and other emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 4pm, with West Midlands Fire Service confirming they received the call at 4.05pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived shortly afterward, with their spokeswoman stating: "We were called to reports of a property fire on Deykin Avenue in Witton at 5.04pm on Monday."

The ambulance service dispatched one vehicle to the location, where paramedics assessed four children - a girl and three boys - at the scene.

Children Escape Injury

Fortunately, all four children were discharged at the scene after assessment, with ambulance staff determining they did not require further treatment.

A police spokesman confirmed: "Four children were at the address and thankfully weren't injured" despite the serious nature of the incident.

Arrest and Court Proceedings

Police have charged Safoora Bi, aged 38, of Deykin Avenue, with arson with recklessness endangering life following the incident.

The accused was arrested and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning, November 19.

West Midlands Police have appealed for information, asking witnesses to call 101 quoting log number 3176 of 17 November.

The case continues as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire at the residential property.
