British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may hold information about an assault on a woman travelling on a train towards the Midlands. The attack took place on the afternoon of June 13 as the service approached Coventry railway station.
The victim, who was on a video call in the carriage, was punched in the face and chest at around 3.50pm after she told a man to go away. The man initially walked off but returned a short while later, pushing the woman and punching her in the face, causing her to fall.
Attack continued on the platform
The ordeal did not end when the train reached Coventry. The same man followed the woman off the service and verbally abused her on the platform. She was able to get away from him before leaving the station, and the man also left the train at Coventry.
British Transport Police said in a statement: "Officers investigating an assault on board a train in the West Midlands have released this image in connection. At around 3.50pm on June 13, a woman was in a carriage on a video call when she was approached by a man. After being told to go away, the man punched the woman in her cheek and chest. He then walked away and returned a short while later before pushing the victim and punching her in the face, causing her to fall. As the train approached Coventry railway station, the woman went to leave the train, but he followed and verbally abused her. She was able to get away from him before leaving the station. The man also left the train at Coventry."
Appeal for information
The force believes the man in the CCTV image could have information that may assist their enquiries. Anyone who recognises him is asked to text British Transport Police on 61016, or call 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 433 of June 13. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with details to come forward as they work to identify the individual involved in the attack.
