Police have launched a hate crime investigation following a disturbing incident where a man was filmed dumping raw meat outside a Sikh place of worship in the West Midlands.
Incident Caught on Camera
The event took place outside the Guru Narak Gurdwara on Edward Street in West Bromwich on Monday, December 22, 2025. Security footage captured the moment a man, described as white and wearing a green coat, black trousers, white trainers, and a backpack, emptied a black plastic bag near the temple's gates.
The video shows the individual walking along Victoria Road at approximately 3:50 pm before turning onto Edward Street. He is seen discarding paper first, followed by what is reported to be raw meat, at the entrance to the Gurdwara. He then threw away the bag and continued walking down the street.
Police and Community Response
West Midlands Police confirmed they are treating the act as a religiously and racially aggravated hate crime. A force spokesman stated: "This is being treated as a hate crime and we're carrying out enquiries in the area. We won't tolerate any type of hate crime." The crime reference number issued is 20/485135/25.
In response, representatives from the Gurdwara held meetings with police, local MPs, and councillors on Tuesday, December 23. They have received assurances that the matter is being taken with the utmost seriousness.
Appeal for Information
Both the Gurdwara management and the police have issued a public appeal for information to help identify the man responsible. The temple's statement urged: "We urge the Sangat (community), if anyone has any information regarding the individual or can help with police enquiries in the local area, please contact West Midlands Police."
Witnesses or anyone with relevant information are asked to contact police via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or by calling 101, quoting the crime reference number. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The Gurdwara has thanked the community for its support and stated it will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
