Construction has officially commenced on a £290,000 project to transform an unused area of Edwalton Golf Club's clubhouse into a modern, multi-purpose community hub. The new space will accommodate up to 40 people for a variety of events, including business meetings, exercise classes, and social gatherings.
The investment builds on a previous £250,000 upgrade that delivered a new bar, café, and community meeting space at the venue on Wellin Lane in Edwalton. A newly opened footpath now connects the surrounding housing development directly to the site, enabling residents to walk through and enjoy the facilities.
Extension Features and Sustainability Measures
Contractors are currently on site delivering the new extension, which will include a dedicated kitchenette, toilets, and an outdoor seating area. The build also incorporates upgrades to thermal insulation, drainage, and fire safety, alongside the installation of rooftop solar panels designed to lower running costs.
Free parking will be available on site for visitors attending parties, coffee mornings, corporate conferences, and children's groups. Construction work is expected to continue until Christmas.
Council Investment and Community Impact
Rushcliffe Borough Council cabinet member Jonathan Wheeler highlighted the council's broader commitment to the facility: “We’ve allocated £540,000 to support significant improvements at the golf centre in recent years and the extension of the clubhouse is another wonderful example of Rushcliffe Borough Council investing in its communities.”
He added: “The centre isn’t just for golfers, it is a valuable asset for anyone to come and meet, be it business or social, and to celebrate special occasions. I’m pleased we can add another venue to our extensive range of sites offering rooms for hire. It is also rewarding to know we are reducing the environmental impact by adding solar panels, ensuring the venue remains sustainable for many years to come, in line with our Carbon Clever priorities.”
Contractor and Operator Perspectives
