Birmingham's much-loved National Trust attraction, the Back-to-Backs, is offering free tickets for one day only in September, giving families the chance to save up to £30 on a visit.
What is the Back-to-Backs?
The Back-to-Backs museum, located in Birmingham city centre, lets visitors experience 200 years of working people's lives. Carefully restored, the atmospheric 19th-century courtyard of homes offers a glimpse into how people used to live in the city.
Normally, tickets cost £12 for adults, £6 for children, or £30 for a family, so the free open day represents significant savings for visitors.
When is the free open day?
The free open day is part of Birmingham Heritage Week, which runs from Friday, September 11 to Sunday, September 20, 2026. Entry fees to the Back-to-Backs will be cancelled on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
There are two time slots available: 10.30am to 1.30pm, or 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment on the day.
How to get free tickets
Booking slots will become available on the Birmingham Heritage Week website from Saturday, August 15. Visitors are advised to book early as places are limited.
According to a National Trust spokesman: "We're opening our doors to visitors to explore Court 15 and the back-to-back houses. Our volunteers will be on hand to tell you more about the fascinating history of the houses and the many people who lived and worked here."
What else is on offer?
Visitors will also be able to explore 'From Around Here', an exhibition showcasing creative responses to the culture, communities and character of Birmingham's Southside, developed by students from Birmingham City University's Department of Fashion & Jewellery.
Birmingham Heritage Week 2026 features hundreds of hidden places opening to the public over 10 days, including other popular attractions offering free entry.
Getting to the Back-to-Backs
The Birmingham Back-to-Backs are a short walk from Grand Central and Moor Street Stations and close to Birmingham bus stops. There's no parking on site; the nearest car park is the Arcadian.
