A banned Birmingham driver found himself in an awkward predicament after getting wedged between car seats while attempting to evade police. Luke Raybould, 27, of Collingbourne Avenue, borrowed a friend's BMW to visit his girlfriend, but ended up stuck when officers pulled the vehicle over.
Court Details
Appearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court, Raybould pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance following the incident on April 25 in Chelmsley Wood. Prosecutor Alisha Collins told the court that Raybould initially provided false details to police before trying to hop into the back seat, only to become wedged between the seats.
Background and Sentencing
Raybould was already banned from driving until March 2027 as part of a community order, having previously been disqualified for dangerous driving. His solicitor, Mr Khattak, explained that Raybould's girlfriend was going through a difficult time, and he made a foolish decision to borrow the car to see her.
The defence described the incident as a silly mistake, noting that Raybould had spent time in custody and was remorseful. Magistrates adjourned the case until August 3 for a pre-sentence report. Chair of the Magistrates, Mr Morgan, warned Raybould: Don't be tempted to drive a car.
