Restaurant Closed Over Cockroach Infestation
Environmental Health officers from Birmingham City Council carried out a routine inspection of Taste of Persia in Hagley Road on June 30 this year. During the inspection, they discovered adult and juvenile cockroaches throughout the premises, including in the cooker, beneath the stove, under work tops, on pans, on shelves and on the floor.
Imminent Risk to Public Health
Megan Stanley, prosecuting on behalf of Birmingham City Council, told magistrates that the inspection concluded there was an 'imminent risk to public health'. Cockroaches can contaminate food and equipment, causing the spread of e-coli or salmonella and other diseases. An emergency prohibition notice was served to company owners Am Victual.
Ongoing Concerns
Environmental health officers said the company has now put down treatment and is cleaning the premises. However, health bosses said concerns remained. Magistrates granted a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order during the hearing on Thursday, July 2, which will remain in place until the issues are rectified.
