The Post Office branch at 1-3 Greenwood Way, Chelmsley Wood, has closed suddenly and will not reopen, leaving many residents without access to vital services. The unplanned closure was confirmed after customers found the branch shut at the end of last week, with no prior notice or explanation.
Local resident Kurt Tarrach, who uses a walking aid, said he visited the branch on multiple occasions over three consecutive working days, only to find it closed each time. He expressed frustration at the lack of information provided to customers.
Residents Left in the Dark
Mr Tarrach told BirminghamLive: "The branch has now been closed for the past three working days. I have been there on multiple occasions and, as far as I have been able to establish, customers have not been given any meaningful explanation as to why it is closed or when normal service will resume."
He highlighted the importance of the branch for the local community, stating: "This is not simply an inconvenience. It is the main local Post Office for many people in the area, including elderly and disabled residents and people who rely on public transport."
The closure has already caused personal problems for Mr Tarrach, who said: "I have had deliveries directed there which could not be collected because the branch was closed, and I now need to send my daughter's birthday parcel but cannot rely on my local Post Office being available."
Post Office Confirms Permanent Closure
The Post Office has now confirmed that the branch will not reopen. A spokesperson explained the reason: "Chelmsley Wood Post Office has regrettably closed. A planned sale of the business has not taken place and the postmaster is no longer able to operate the branch."
The organisation apologised for the inconvenience, adding: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the unplanned closure. We will review Post Office provision in the area. In the interim alternative branches include Yorkminster Drive and Tile Cross."
