Drug Dealer Jailed After £140k Cannabis Recovery

A drug dealer has been jailed after police recovered cannabis worth approximately £140,000 during a raid in Birmingham. The operation, carried out by West Midlands Police, targeted a property in the Small Heath area. Officers seized a significant quantity of cannabis plants and dried cannabis during the search.

Details of the Raid

The raid took place on 15th March 2023 at a property on Coventry Road. Police discovered a sophisticated cannabis cultivation setup, including lighting, ventilation, and irrigation systems. The drugs were found in several rooms of the house, which had been converted into a growing operation.

The suspect, 32-year-old Mohammed Ali, was arrested at the scene. He later pleaded guilty to production of cannabis and possession with intent to supply. At Birmingham Crown Court, he was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

Police Response

Detective Constable Sarah Johnson, from West Midlands Police's organised crime unit, said: "This was a significant seizure that has disrupted the supply of illegal drugs in Birmingham. Cannabis cultivation often links to other criminal activities, including violence and exploitation. We will continue to target those who profit from this trade."

The force urged the public to report suspicious activity, such as unusual smells or frequent visitors to properties, to help tackle drug crime.

Community Impact

Local residents expressed relief at the police action. One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We had noticed strange smells and people coming and going at odd hours. It's good to see the police taking action."

West Midlands Police confirmed that the cannabis would be destroyed, and the proceeds of crime will be investigated for potential confiscation.
