A callous killer stabbed his housemate to death in Birmingham before fleeing the scene and attempting to conceal the murder weapon. Abdou Sillah, 24, of Swanage Road, Small Heath, lived at a shared property with victim Kiirpal Nhian, 29.
Emergency Response and Discovery
Emergency services were called to the address shortly before 6.40pm on Saturday, December 20, following reports that Kiirpal had been found collapsed in the garden, not breathing, and with a stab wound to his chest. The 29-year-old died at the scene later.
Flight and Arrest
Sillah was captured on camera fleeing the address shortly after the stabbing took place. He was arrested a few days later in possession of a knife and wearing clothing similar to that seen on CCTV footage. The 24-year-old was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.
Court Proceedings and Conviction
Despite pleading not guilty, Sillah was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced on September 28 at the same court.
Police Statement
Det Insp Ade George, from West Midlands Police's homicide unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew Kiirpal and have been affected by his death. There is no doubt Sillah knew his actions could lead to devastating consequences and his attempts to hide the murder weapon and flee from the address showed he had no intention of handing himself in. Thanks to the work of my officers and other teams across the force, including forensics, we were able to piece everything together, track Sillah down, and put him before the courts to answer for his crimes. I hope this result will give everyone who knew Kiirpal some comfort that he will be put behind bars for his actions.”
