Man dies in Edgbaston Reservoir drowning incident

Emergency services were called to Edgbaston Reservoir on Icknield Port Road at 9.45pm on Sunday, July 5, following reports that a man had drowned. Despite efforts from multiple agencies, the man, believed to be in his 20s, was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police statement and investigation

West Midlands Police confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. A spokesperson said: “We were called to Edgbaston Reservoir, Icknield Port Road, at 9.45pm, last night alongside other emergency service colleagues to reports a man, believed to be in his 20s, had drowned. Sadly, nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene. Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew him at this time. His death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Response from emergency services

West Midlands Fire Service dispatched two crews to the incident, while West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended. Fire personnel left the scene at 11.15pm, handing the matter over to police. The reservoir, a popular spot in Birmingham, saw a significant emergency presence as teams worked to recover the man’s body.
