A stressed mother has revealed that her children are unable to play in the garden because of her neighbour's cats, which have been using the space as a litter tray for five years. Despite numerous attempts to deter the felines, including sensors, water sprays, and cat-repellent plants, the situation has become unbearable.
Ongoing issue
The woman said the cats dig up plants, spray against the shed, and leave faeces in the flower beds, making the garden smell terrible. She has now installed cat spikes as a last resort, despite disliking their appearance.
After her neighbour accused her of being unreasonable, she turned to Mumsnet for advice. The forum user explained that the neighbour's four cats have caused constant stress, preventing her children from playing outside.
Mixed reactions
Responses from other users were varied. One suggested throwing the cat poo back into the neighbour's garden, while another recommended planting curry plants and lavender, which cats dislike. A cat owner said spikes are acceptable as long as they are legal and properly installed. Another urged cat owners to take responsibility by installing fence barriers to prevent roaming.
The mother remains upset but hopes the spikes will finally allow her family to enjoy their own garden.
