Wolverhampton Council Reviews Plans for 28 New Apartments on Waterloo Road
A significant planning application has been formally submitted to Wolverhampton Council, proposing the demolition of existing structures at 127 Waterloo Road to make way for a new residential development. The plans, lodged by Stoneleigh Architectural Services, aim to construct 28 two-bedroom apartments across two separate blocks on the site.
Details of the Proposed Development
The application seeks permission to knock down the current property at 127 Waterloo Road, which is a house, along with an adjacent car wash and commercial car storage facility located to the rear. According to the submitted drawings, Block A would contain 16 apartments, while Block B would house 12 units, all designed as two-bedroom residences.
In addition to the apartment blocks, the planning document, dated March 20, outlines a request for the partial demolition of 10 Francis Street to enable the construction of two new terraced dwellings. This complementary proposal is part of a broader effort to redevelop the area.
Parking and Accessibility Enhancements
The development plans include a substantial increase in parking capacity to accommodate residents and visitors. Currently, the site offers 15 existing parking spaces. The proposal aims to expand this to a total of 35 spaces, which includes retaining some of the current ones.
Notably, the plans also specify the creation of four dedicated disability parking spaces, enhancing accessibility for individuals with mobility challenges. This move aligns with broader community needs for inclusive infrastructure.
Architectural and Material Specifications
The planning document provides detailed information on the proposed materials and finishes for the new buildings. For the apartment blocks, the walls will feature a mix of facing brickwork and render. The roofs are designed to include mansard flat roofs and standard flat roofs.
For the proposed terraced houses on Francis Street, the walls will have facing render to match the existing structures, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic with the surrounding area. The windows for the apartment blocks will be grey UPVC, while the houses will utilize white UPVC frames.
Current Site Status and Applicant Information
The site at 127 Waterloo Road is currently not vacant, housing a residential property along with commercial operations. The applicant, Mr. Singh of Stoneleigh Architectural Services, has listed Mr. Jacob Sedgemore from the same company as the agent handling the submission.
This development represents a potential transformation of the Waterloo Road area, pending approval from Wolverhampton Council. The council will review the application considering factors such as local housing needs, traffic impact, and community feedback.
