This is the moment Birmingham's slowest car thief strikes outside a city home as he struggles to drive away a stolen BMW X3. The solo offender swooped on a driveway in the Tile Cross area at around 1:40 a.m. on Friday, June 5.
He manages to break into the car and start the engine before taking time to reverse it. However, he then takes longer to change gear to move forwards and flee the scene. It appears to take around 90 seconds after reversing the car before he eventually makes his getaway.
Victim Devastated by Theft
The raid left the victim devastated, as he requires his car to get to his hospital appointments due to suffering from a number of health conditions. The victim, who asked not to be named, told BirminghamLive: "I'm absolutely gutted because I rely on this car to get to my hospital and doctor's appointments. Being without it is a massive struggle for me right now."
The car was later found a short time later. But the experience has left the victim "scared for his family."
Previous Incidents
"I haven't yet had a chance to see the state of the car, as the police want to carry out forensics on it, which is great. I hope they catch him," he said. "In a different incident, one of the properties I lived in was ransacked while I was abroad with my family. Even the carpets were taken. At my last property, someone tried to break into the house with a crowbar in order to steal the car. All of these incidents have left me anxious and genuinely scared for my family."
Police Investigation
Police are investigating the car theft. Any information can be passed onto police by calling 101. No arrests have been made and inquiries were ongoing. In a statement, police told BirminghamLive: "At around 2:30 a.m. yesterday (Friday) we received a report that a car had been stolen from a property in Birmingham. The vehicle was located a short time later. Anyone with any information should contact us on 101 quoting log number 268 of 5 June."
