Travellers Ordered to Vacate Billesley Common Car Park by Friday Deadline

A large convoy of caravans and vehicles currently parked at Billesley Common car park in Birmingham must leave the site by tomorrow, Friday, February 20, following a formal notice issued by the city council. The group has been occupying the car park, located next to Moseley Rugby Club off Yardley Wood Road, since Monday, February 16.

Council Takes Action to Protect Public Land

City environment boss Councillor Majid Mahmood stated that the council is committed to actively protecting its land and will take steps to recover it from unauthorised encampments. "This group of travellers occupied the land Monday 16 February and notice was served on Tuesday," he said. "Eviction is scheduled for Friday, February 20." The notice to leave was served on Tuesday, giving the occupants a clear deadline to vacate the area.

Impact on Local Community and Facilities

The travellers arrived at Billesley Common just as the half-term holidays began, potentially affecting local activities. The common is a popular spot for walkers, joggers, dog owners, and families, and it serves as a haven for wildlife, with Haunch Brook running through it. Key facilities in the area include:

  • Moseley Rugby Football Club, which leases part of the common for its pitches, clubhouse, and a 5,000 all-seater stand.
  • Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre, featuring indoor and outdoor tennis courts and a gym.

The council's swift response aims to minimise disruption to these community assets and ensure the common remains accessible for public use.
