Police have arrested two men in connection with an alleged murder in Wimbledon, after a man's body was discovered in a wooded area in Kent. The arrests follow a fast-moving investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Incident and Initial Response
Officers were called to a report of a potential incident at an address in Kingfisher Court, Wimbledon, south-west London, at around 10:55pm on Thursday, July 9. A police search of the property found no one inside, but officers believed someone had 'come to harm' at the address, prompting a full investigation.
Arrests and Discovery of Body
A 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were arrested on Friday, July 10, on suspicion of murder after they attended Medway police station in Gillingham, Kent. Later that day, officers discovered the body of a man in a wooded area of Borstal, Kent. The victim and the two arrested men were known to each other, according to the force.
A third man, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has since been bailed. The victim's next-of-kin have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.
Police Statement and Appeal
Detective Inspector Ben Dalloway said: "This has been a fast-moving investigation and we are working tirelessly to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. Although we have made two arrests and do not believe there is any wider risk to the public, we would ask that anyone with information comes forward to police as soon as possible by calling 101 with CAD 9504/9JUL."
The investigation continues as police work to piece together the events leading to the man's death.
