The seriously injured woman was taken to Royal Derby Hospital by land ambulance under blue lights, with trauma care provided by specialist air ambulance medics during the journey.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "Ambulance staff arrived to find the driver of one car, a woman, in a serious condition. She received trauma care on scene before being conveyed by land ambulance on blue lights. Air ambulance medics travelled with the woman to provide additional trauma care en route to Royal Derby Hospital."
Three other people were also treated. The driver of a second car, a man, received treatment for non-serious injuries before being taken to Burton Queens Hospital. A woman from a parked car involved in the collision was assessed for minor injuries and discharged at the scene.
