Birmingham Chippy Sells £1 Chicken & Chips in 'Nostalgia Prices' TikTok Trend
Birmingham chippy sells £1 chicken and chips for nostalgia

A popular Birmingham chip shop is turning back the clock on prices, offering a full meal for just a single pound in a bid to spark community spirit and nostalgia.

A Deliberate Throwback to Simpler Times

Hajees Original on Coventry Road in Small Heath will sell portions of chicken and chips for only £1 this Sunday, January 18. The special offer will run from 12pm until 4pm, serving as what the business calls a deliberate throwback to the good old days.

Director Mohammed Hashim explained the thinking behind the dramatic price cut. He stated the deal taps directly into Birmingham's collective nostalgia, reminding locals of a time when a hot, satisfying meal could genuinely be bought for pocket change.

"The intention is simple and genuinely community-spirited," said Hashim. "At a time when everything from bills to groceries feels expensive, the team want to give local families a chance to enjoy something nostalgic, fun, and affordable."

Riding a Viral TikTok Wave

This gesture is part of a growing trend among Birmingham's food outlets, who are using their social media reach to promote deeply discounted 'nostalgia prices'. Hajees announced its £1 deal on its own TikTok account, which has amassed over 18,000 followers and 863,700 likes.

The move follows the viral success of another local business, Hot Spot on Yardley Wood Road in Billesley. Last week, owner Nassar Iqbal, known online as 'Uncle Nas', drew huge queues by selling cones of chips for just 20p, reminiscing about times when schoolchildren would dash out for a cheap lunch.

Mohammad from Hajees added: "This Sunday's event is a gesture of appreciation towards our customers, as well as a nod to the era when most of us could walk into a local takeaway after school and get fed for pocket change."

Community Reaction and Support

The announcement has generated an enthusiastic response online. One follower, @Paks36, commented on the video: "I will actually be driving two hours to get this £1 chicken and chips. Each time I used to come Brum, Hajees was the spot."

Another user praised the community-focused approach, writing: "Mashallah it's awesome you guys are supporting the community with these special offers. May Allah bring barakah in your businesses."

The trend highlights how local businesses are leveraging social media platforms like TikTok not just for promotion, but to foster direct community engagement and offer tangible support during a challenging economic period, creating both buzz and goodwill.
