Birmingham City are reportedly on the cusp of announcing their second acquisition of the January transfer window, having agreed a deal for Gambian winger Abdoulie Manneh.
Blues Close in on Attacking Reinforcement
According to reports from GiveMeSport, the Championship club have struck an agreement with Swedish Allsvenskan side Mjallby AIF for the permanent transfer of the 21-year-old attacker. This move follows the earlier signing of left wing-back Kai Wagner from Philadelphia Union as manager Chris Davies seeks to strengthen his squad.
The pursuit of new attacking talent comes amid pressure on Davies following an inconsistent first half of the 2025/26 season. While Birmingham have recorded back-to-back 3-2 victories over Cambridge United and Coventry City, they were preceded by a seven-game winless run. The club's ambition remains securing a play-off place.
Who is Abdoulie Manneh?
Abdoulie Manneh is a Gambia international who made his senior debut for his country at just 17, shortly before joining Mjallby. After a promising 2024 season where he was often used as an impact substitute, the winger enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2025.
He established himself as a regular starter in the Swedish top flight, scoring seven goals in 28 appearances. Primarily operating on the left flank, Manneh is also noted for his versatility and can play as a centre-forward.
His potential arrival is seen as a proactive move by Birmingham, who anticipate the possible recall of Liverpool loanee Lewis Koumas. Davies had previously expressed doubts about the youngster remaining due to limited game time.
Challenges for Immediate Impact
While Manneh would offer fresh options, breaking into the starting eleven immediately may prove challenging. The wide positions at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park are currently occupied by the experienced and in-form duo of Patrick Roberts and Demarai Gray.
Nevertheless, the signing represents a strategic piece of business for the future, adding depth and competition as Birmingham aim to build momentum in the second half of the campaign. The club hopes new additions can provide the boost needed to climb the Championship table.
