Lancashire Constabulary's lead for diversity and inclusion has received a prestigious honour for her outstanding contributions to community relations and policing. Rozila Kana, the force's Culture and Inclusion Manager, has been named the winner of this year's George Herbert Redman Award.
An Award for Going Above and Beyond
The annual George Herbert Redman Award, supported by the George Herbert Redman Trust, recognises a serving officer or member of police staff for their substantial contribution to Lancashire Constabulary. The winner is chosen from applicants put forward by managers within the force.
Rozila Kana was selected for her work both within the constabulary and across the wider county. She was praised for improving community relations, breaking down barriers, and strengthening public confidence in policing.
Vital Work in Recruitment and During Crisis
Kana has played a crucial role in police recruitment, leveraging her strong networks to attract diverse talent. Her tireless efforts were also instrumental during the national disorder that followed the appalling attack in Southport last year.
During that period of heightened tension, her leadership and communication skills were vital in providing reassurance to communities and maintaining crucial dialogue between the public and the police.
High Praise from Police Leaders
The award was presented by Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Kimberley Whitehead at the Chief Constable's special awards evening. Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw, highlighted the importance of Kana's work.
"I have known Rozi for many years, and I know just how important her work is in fostering strong relationships between the police and the communities they serve," Grunshaw said. "Two-way dialogue is essential for building trust and confidence in policing."
Chief Constable Sacha Hatchett also offered glowing praise. "Rozi is an exceptionally respected and trusted figure within Lancashire Police and across our wider communities," Hatchett stated. "Her dedication has ensured that people’s voices are not only heard but truly valued. She is a thoroughly deserving recipient of this award."
Runner-Up Also Celebrated
The awards ceremony also recognised runner-up Kien Phuong, the force's Police Cadet Coordinator. He was honoured for his unwavering commitment to community service and youth engagement, underscoring the constabulary's broader commitment to connecting with all parts of the community it serves.
