Crafty Pint micropub sold after 10 years in Halesowen

The Crafty Pint, a much-loved micropub in Halesowen, has been sold after a decade in business. The change of ownership was announced in a Facebook post on Monday October 19, marking the end of an era for the popular real ale venue. The new owner is Josh Hill, who takes over from founder Andy Davies.

A Decade of Growth and Community

Andy Davies established The Crafty Pint in 2016 in a converted shop, and the bar quickly became a staple of the Halesowen community. Initially a one-room pub, it was extended into the adjoining shop unit and then, in 2022, into the former shop unit on the opposite side. This made the venue three times as large as the original pub. Over the years, The Crafty Pint has won many accolades from CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.

New Owner Takes the Helm

The Facebook post confirmed the handover took place on Monday October 19. It stated: "We have sold The Crafty Pint. The handover was today. The new owner is Josh Hill. He has experience in the trade and appreciates the Real Ale micro pub concept. Same staff, same Crafty Pint. We believe the pub is in good hands. Josh, we wish you the very best of luck and hope you get the best out of it."

Fond Memories and Customer Tributes

The Crafty Pint thanked customers for their support over the years, recalling the first night: "The Crafty started as a one-room pub in a converted shop and grew too busy for one room straight away. I remember the first night, a queue out of the door and the customers spilling onto the road. Then the rain came and blew the electrics. Andy got a torch and wrapped a bit of wire round the old-style fuse and power came back on to a round of applause." The message added: "Please do all you can to support Josh and keep it The Crafty Pint we all know and love. Thank you to all our customers and staff."

The announcement prompted an outpouring of fond memories from customers on social media. One person commented: "Good luck, Andy and Sherry, for the future, and thank you for creating such a lovely little micropub 10 years ago. You've built more than a pub, you've built a real community spirit and brought people together. Wishing you both all the very best for whatever comes next." Another said: "The best place in Halesowen for beer, full stop. Only seems like yesterday it opening and its just got better and better. Thanks for all your hard work Andy and Sheree, and all the staff, especially Jakub. Always guaranteed good beer and great company. All the best Josh and congratulations."
