Major Play Area Upgrades Coming to Six Caerphilly Parks

A comprehensive programme of improvements is currently being implemented across multiple parks in Caerphilly County Borough, aimed at significantly enhancing the quality, accessibility, and inclusivity of local play facilities for children and families. Over the next few weeks, upgrade works will be carried out at six key locations: Waunfawr Park, Bargoed Park, Cwm Darran Park, Morgan Jones Park, Ystrad Mynach Park, and Blackwood Showfield.

Parks Remain Open with Temporary Closures

All parks will stay open to the public during this period; however, some individual pieces of playground equipment will be temporarily out of use. In certain locations, existing items have already been removed for safety reasons in preparation for the installation of new, more inclusive play equipment. Safety fencing will be erected around affected areas to ensure visitors are kept safe and clearly informed about the ongoing works.

Replacing Beloved Structures with Modern Features

At Ystrad Mynach Park, the much-loved lighthouse play structure has recently been taken down after reaching the end of its serviceable lifespan and no longer being suitable for repair. A new play feature will be installed as part of the wider programme, ensuring continued enjoyment for the community.

Funding and Community Impact

These enhancements are fully funded through the All Wales Play Opportunities Grant 2025-26, which supports the development and improvement of high-quality, accessible play spaces for children and families across Wales. The improvements are designed to ensure local play spaces continue to provide safe, inclusive, and high-quality opportunities for children and families for years to come.

Carol Andrews, Deputy Leader and Play Champion, commented: "High-quality, inclusive play spaces are vital for children's development, wellbeing, and social connection. This programme of improvements across our parks will ensure that more children, including those with additional needs, can enjoy safe, engaging, and accessible play opportunities within their local communities. We are committed to making our play areas welcoming and inclusive for all."

Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure and Green Spaces, added: "Our parks and green spaces play an important role in supporting healthy, active communities. Investing in modern, durable, and inclusive equipment across a number of sites ensures that our local parks continue to be valued spaces for families for years to come."

Further updates, including detailed installation timelines, will be shared as the works progress, keeping residents informed about the developments in their local parks.
