Work is set to begin later this month on a £100,000 transformation of the play area at Church Lane Park in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, creating modern and inclusive facilities for local children, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities. The project, funded through a partnership with the FCC Communities Foundation, will temporarily close the main play area for several weeks while contractors carry out the upgrades.
Community-Driven Project
The funding follows extensive consultation with nearby residents, whose feedback highlighted the clear need for an accessible, upgraded space. This project marks the first phase of wider planned improvements for the park, with local leaders hoping the new facilities will reopen to the public in time for autumn once installation is complete.
Councillor Viv McCrossen, portfolio holder for climate change, parks and environmental health at Gedling Borough Council, said: "We’re very pleased that work is now set to begin on this much-needed upgrade to the play area at Church Lane Park." She added: "This is a well-used space, and these changes are about making sure it continues to be somewhere children can have fun, be active and spend time outdoors with their friends and families."
Funding and Support
The project is being funded through a partnership with the FCC Communities Foundation, a grant-making body that supports community projects across the UK. The Friends of Church Lane Park have worked closely with Gedling Borough Council and the local community to help secure the funding and shape the plans for the play area."
