Becketts Farm in Wythall is turning its sunflower fields into a summer garden party venue every single day throughout August, and entry is completely free. The Sunflower Field Summer Garden Party runs from August 1 to 31, offering families a chance to enjoy photo opportunities among the blooms, garden games, and a range of food and drink options.
The event is designed to make the most of the school holidays, with plenty of open space for children to run around and for families to relax. A spokesman for the farm said: "Make the most of the summer holidays with a visit to our summer garden party! Enjoy a fun-filled family day out surrounded by plenty of space to enjoy the great outdoors."
What to Expect at the Garden Party
Visitors can wander through the sunflower fields, snapping memorable photos, while younger guests can take part in garden games suitable for all ages. The Thirsty Goat Hut will be serving food, drinks, ice creams, and treats, and there's a BBQ offering both meat and vegetarian options. The spokesman added: "Beautiful flowers and photo opportunities, garden games for all ages. Food, drinks, ice creams and treats from The Thirsty Goat Hut and BBQ with meat and vegetarian options."
Entry requires no tickets, but guests are asked to only consume food and drink purchased on site, and to refrain from bringing their own. The Thirsty Goat Hut operates daily from 10am to 3pm, while the barbecue runs from 11am to 3pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout August.
Farm Shop and Picnic Facilities
The farm shop remains open, featuring a sandwich counter with salad boxes, pasta dishes, and sandwiches, plus hot roast pork baps from the deli counter and cakes from the bakery. Picnic benches are available in the fields, and there's ample space for blankets, making it easy to settle in for a full day out.
The flower fields are accessible via pedestrian gates, so visitors can explore them at any time during the event. However, the spokesman noted a slight disappointment this year: "Please note that the sunflowers in our primary field (next to Shirley Aquatics) haven’t grown as well as we’d hoped this year and won’t look as spectacular as they have done. However, the second field (next to American Golf) has taken much better, so we recommend walking through both fields when visiting."
Supporting Local Charity SoLO
This year's Sunflower Fields are supporting Social Life Opportunities (SoLO), a Solihull-based charity that supports children, young people, and adults with learning disabilities. SoLO helps individuals realise their potential, build independence, and develop meaningful friendships through a wide range of social, leisure, and skill-building activities, as well as adult day services, supported living, and after-school and holiday breaks.
