Shropshire Petal Fields, the popular flower attraction, reopens to the public on Friday, August 7, for a limited summer run in Newport, Shropshire. Visitors can explore colourful rows of delphiniums, sunflowers, cornflowers, and wildflowers, with more than 3.5 million seeds planted across a fresh location to offer new views of the county.
What to Expect at This Year's Event
The annual attraction, a joint project between Shropshire Petals and Shropshire Festivals, features an expanded woodland walk and a brand-new phone-free area designed for mindfulness. Visitors can also book morning yoga sessions or visit the pop-up café housed in tipis and marquees. The event runs daily from 10am to 5pm with morning or afternoon time slots, and ticket prices vary by session with advance booking required.
Special themed days include a Princess Event on August 10, dog-friendly sessions on August 12, 15, and 16, and a sunset evening opening on August 14. A recent preview event featuring live music preceded the main reopening.
Weather Challenges and Honest Communication
Organisers have been transparent about the impact of tough weather conditions this year. A cold spring and three heatwaves have resulted in blooms that are shorter and more spread out than usual in some areas of the field.
Beth Heath, from Shropshire Festivals, said: "Come and escape the stresses of life with a stroll through our beautiful flowers. Shropshire Petal Fields is unlike any of our other events – it’s about slowing down for a bit, and taking in nature. This is a tough summer for us and farmers across the UK. We have been very honest with customers that the flowers, whilst still beautiful, haven’t grown as tall and densely in some areas of the field compared with previous years. We can solve a lot of problems on an event site, but we can’t control the weather. We hope that people will still support us, helping us to continue the event for future years."
Innovative Farming Techniques
The farm uses solar-powered robots with precision GPS technology to sow seeds and clear weeds automatically. This modern farming technique saves workers from spending long hours performing manual labor in the fields, allowing them to focus on other aspects of the event.

We’ve witnessed proposals, engagement photoshoots, and baby gender reveals too. Mixing our flowers with Shropshire Festivals’ fun is a fantastic combination. Amongst the blooms you can spot a giant heart, butterfly wings, a bath, a zebra and even a giraffe!"

Food options include pre-booked picnic hampers prepared by a local bakery in Newport. The joint business team hopes the outdoor attraction continues to highlight the best of the local area.
