Persimmon Homes Boosts Herstmonceux Primary School with £3,000 Play Equipment Donation
£3,000 Donation for Herstmonceux Primary School Play Equipment

In a significant boost for local education and recreation, a major housebuilder has provided a generous financial contribution to a primary school in the Wealden district. Persimmon Homes South East has donated £3,000 to Herstmonceux Church of England Primary School, enabling the institution to invest in new play equipment that will enrich break and lunch times for its pupils.

Enhancing Outdoor Play Opportunities

Helen Emmett, the head of school, expressed her enthusiasm for the donation, highlighting the school's commitment to maximising its outdoor space. "We don't have a huge outdoor area, but we are determined to make the most of what we have," she explained. "Our goal is to offer structured play options that cater to every child's interests. Currently, we have a trim-trail and football zone for older students, and now, with this support, we can explore additional equipment to foster more imaginative play."

The funding will be used to purchase a variety of resources, including craft materials, building blocks, and specialised play apparatus. These items are designed to be inclusive, benefiting all age groups within the school community and encouraging creative engagement during outdoor periods.

Building Community Connections

This charitable act coincides with Persimmon Homes South East's ongoing work on the Charles Church at Chapel Green development, located near the school. The company aims to create a positive legacy in Herstmonceux by supporting local initiatives beyond housing construction.

Danny Woods, operations director for Persimmon Homes South East, emphasised the firm's community-focused ethos. "We pride ourselves on not just building new homes but on strengthening the communities where we operate," he stated. "Our Chapel Green development will deliver 70 much-needed new homes, including 17 for affordable rent and eight shared ownership properties to assist those in housing need. Additionally, we are investing in the area through Section 106 contributions for children's play areas and early years' provision. Our Community Champions donations, like this one, are an extra way we can give back and support the existing community in Herstmonceux."

Local Council Applauds Initiative

The donation has garnered praise from local authorities, with Councillor Paul Coleshill, Wealden District Council member for Herstmonceux & Pevensey Levels and portfolio holder for climate change, commending the effort. "I would like to thank Persimmon Homes for supporting the school and enhancing outdoor play opportunities for the children," he remarked. "It is also encouraging to hear that the new homes at Chapel Green will be energy-efficient, featuring technologies like air source heat pumps and PV panels, aligning with our environmental goals."

In addition to the financial contribution, Persimmon Homes donated copies of their Cones book for pupils to take home. This initiative promotes reading while educating children about safety on construction sites, further embedding the company's commitment to community welfare and education.

This donation underscores the importance of corporate-community partnerships in fostering educational and recreational development, particularly in areas like Wealden where local resources can benefit from such collaborations.
