The mother of Olympic champion Adam Peaty has publicly revealed the details of a text message exchange that she says led to a devastating family rift, resulting in her being uninvited from his wedding to Holly Ramsay.
The Message That Changed Everything
In an emotional interview with the Daily Mail, Caroline Peaty described the moment her relationship with her son began to unravel. The turning point came when she sent a message to her future daughter-in-law, Holly Ramsay, expressing concern that members of Adam's wider family were not being included in the couple's engagement party celebrations.
Caroline explained her motivation, stating: "I told her, 'you know how important family is to you, as it is to me. My sisters are not coming to the party, they have been there all through Adam's life.'" According to Caroline, Adam did not take kindly to this intervention, and their relationship deteriorated significantly afterwards.
A Relationship's Rapid Decline
The situation escalated to the point where Caroline found herself excluded from major pre-wedding events. She was notably absent from the extravagant hen party at Soho Farmhouse, while Holly's mother, Tana Ramsay, and family friend Victoria Beckham were in attendance.
More painfully, Caroline has reportedly not been invited to the wedding itself, which is scheduled to take place at the historic Bath Abbey on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, Caroline has been at home caring for her grandson - Adam's child from a previous relationship.
The mother-of-the-groom recalled that her initial relationship with Holly had been positive after they first met at the Paris Olympics last year. "We had a really good time," Caroline confessed. "We both shared confidences that will remain confidential." She had even felt comfortable enough to share her concerns that Adam was "pulling away" from his family.
Family Members Speak Out
Adam's aunt, Louise William, has joined the dispute, publicly criticising the Olympic swimmer's behaviour towards his mother. In social media posts, she questioned how Adam's reported born-again Christian faith aligned with his actions.
Louise wrote: "Yes. Adam is a born-again Christian. He's not living by the tenets of Christianity is he? Where is 'honour thy mother and thy father' where is the forgiveness?"
She defended the family's values, stating: "Our family and friends place real value on love, friendship, loyalty and being there for each other. I hate injustice, always have, and I will always speak out against it."
Caroline had attempted to smooth things over with the Ramsay family directly, approaching Gordon Ramsay at the engagement celebration to clarify that her original message to Holly had not been sent with negative intentions. However, these efforts appear to have been unsuccessful in healing the growing divide between the Peaty family and the soon-to-be-married couple.
