Birmingham Dogs Home's Longest Residents Await Loving Forever Homes
Hundreds of dogs in Birmingham are currently searching for the perfect owner, but some face significantly longer waits than others. We recently visited Birmingham Dogs Home to meet some of the residents who have been there the longest, including one dog who hasn't found a new home in over two years.
Despite their extended stays, these dogs remain joyful and resilient, displaying wagging tails, hopeful eyes, and an infectious energy that shines through their challenging circumstances. Each dog has a unique story and personality, waiting for the right family to provide a loving forever home.
Meet the Dogs Waiting for Adoption
Lorna: Lorna is a Presa Canario who has been homed multiple times, but unfortunately, these placements have not worked out long-term. Shelter staff describe her as a very friendly girl who bounces around with a smile. She may need some time to adjust from kennel life to a cozy home environment, but she has an abundance of love to give to her future owner.
Joey: Joey is a lurcher/greyhound cross who arrived at the shelter as a stray. He has become a popular resident with what staff call a real zest for life. Joey excels on walks, staying calmly by your side while enjoying plenty of sniffing opportunities. He can be quite independent but will occasionally seek cuddles when the mood strikes. He is looking for an adult-only home or one with older children.
Roy: Roy is another dog who came to Birmingham Dogs Home as a stray. He finds kennel life somewhat stressful and requires a home with someone very active who can also help manage his separation anxiety. Staff emphasize that he cannot be left alone for extended periods. This energetic Patterdale Terrier is friendly with people, loves toys, and can live with children aged eight and above.
Stockton: This four-year-old cane corso has now spent half his life at Birmingham Dogs Home, nearly two years in total. Staff describe him as a misunderstood ginormous puppy who is very bouncy and playful. Weighing over seven stones, he is a large dog with an equally large heart. Stockton is best suited for an experienced home with children aged thirteen and older.
Each of these dogs represents the many animals at Birmingham Dogs Home who are patiently waiting for their chance at a happy, secure future. Their stories highlight the importance of adoption and the transformative power of providing a forever home to a rescue animal.
