Birmingham Family Raves Combat Food Poverty with Fun Events
Bangers N' Mashup CIC is hosting a series of family raves in Birmingham to raise money for individuals and families facing food poverty. Founded by local mother Sarah Ventre, the initiative blends enjoyable family activities with grassroots fundraising efforts to support the community.
Initiative Born from Pandemic Efforts
Sarah Ventre, a Brummie mother from Kings Norton with children aged nine and four, launched Bangers N' Mashup CIC after volunteering during the Covid pandemic. She and hundreds of others delivered food to thousands of families in need. When lockdowns ended, Sarah recognized the ongoing need and created this initiative to combine fun events with practical support.
Upcoming Rave Events
The next event is scheduled for May 31 at Rowheath Pavilion in Bournville, running from 3.30pm to 6.30pm. Additional raves are planned throughout the year:
- Summer rave at Alfred Works on July 19
- Summer holiday rave on August 31
- Halloween event on October 31
- Special Christmas celebration on December 18
These events feature old school and garage music from the 1990s and 2000s, live performances, photo booths, rave paint, glitter tattoos, free fruit sundae stations for children, and chill-out areas for babies.
Beyond the Raves: Community Support Programs
Bangers N' Mashup CIC extends its impact beyond the raves by offering free food workshops, play and food sessions, and advice for care leavers. The organization also hosts mini kids raves in temporary accommodation, allowing families to dance and eat together in a supportive environment.
Sarah emphasizes that the goal is to provide a fun, inclusive experience while addressing serious issues like food poverty. The events are designed for all ages, fostering community spirit and raising essential funds for those in need.
