Paranormal Investigators Claim Ghostly Encounter at Birmingham Hotel
A Midlands couple who run a paranormal-themed YouTube channel have reported a chilling ghostly encounter at a Birmingham hotel, allegedly capturing the voice of a man who once lived nearby. Tracey and Andrew Lindon, from Shropshire, operate Whispered Encounters UK and were in the city visiting Tracey's son, who is undergoing leukaemia treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Mysterious Recording at Clayton Hotel
During their second stay at the Clayton Hotel on Saturday, March 28, the couple decided to test their EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) equipment, which registers sounds purportedly undetectable by the human ear. At around 10pm, they recorded in their room, not expecting any significant results. However, upon playback, they heard a distinct sound that they interpreted as 'Andrew Brooks, he's still here'.
Andrew Lindon expressed his surprise, stating, 'I thought this place couldn't be haunted because it's a relatively new build. For the fun of it, we decided to test our recording equipment. We didn't intentionally investigate this, it was a random EVP.' The couple's reaction was one of shock, as Andrew added, 'The reaction is always the same, we are always shocked when we encounter spirits. I don't think you ever get used to it.'
Historical Connection to Local Resident
Intrigued by the recording, Tracey and Andrew delved into historical records and discovered the birth certificate of an Andrew Brooks, who allegedly lived opposite the hotel on Albert Street. Tracey explained, 'We didn't think anything would come of it. It's more of an energy and message is what we got. The message simply was that Andrew Brooks is still here. I believe he's been forgotten about and wanted to get his message across.'
The couple emphasizes the importance of verifying such claims before sharing them publicly. Tracey noted, 'It has to hold some truth before we put something out there. For Whispered Encounters, we're giving people a voice and look back into their history.'
Personal Supernatural Experiences
Both Tracey and Andrew have long-standing personal connections to the supernatural, which fuel their paranormal investigations. Andrew's fascination began at age 12 in Burntwood, Staffordshire, when he witnessed an apparition of his father in bed, only to later find the bed empty and learn his father had already left for work. He recalled, 'It wasn't a dream and I was fully awake when I experienced this.'
Tracey's experiences started at 18 during a medical emergency. After losing six pints of blood and being in a coma for three days due to a ruptured spleen, she had a vivid vision of a man on a railway platform who told her it wasn't her time to go. She said, 'That made me curious about the supernatural.'
The Clayton Hotel was approached for comment by BirminghamLive regarding the alleged paranormal activity, but no response has been disclosed at this time. The Lindons continue to share their findings through their YouTube channel, offering a glimpse into the unexplained for their audience.
