A Birmingham father has spoken of his devastation after his children lost their family home in a fire in Kings Heath. The blaze broke out near Manningford Road on June 5, causing extensive damage to the property.
Fire Spread Quickly from Garden
Father-of-three Stu Shepherd said his children were out at the time of the fire, but his daughter's boyfriend was asleep in bed. Stu heard a 'crackling' noise and saw the garden on fire. The flames spread to the property shortly after the children's mother arrived.
The fire brigade was already at the scene, but the home was badly damaged. The kitchen was destroyed, and a ceiling was at risk of collapse. Stu's children were told their belongings had been smoke damaged.
Nothing Could Be Saved
Stu said: 'The fire service said nothing could be done, they couldn't even leave with a bag of clothes.' The cause of the fire remains unknown.
A fundraiser has been set up by Stu's friend Aimee Taviner to help cover essential items, living expenses, and support as his children rebuild their lives. West Midlands Police was approached for comment but did not respond.
