Joe Swash and Stacey Solomon's new reality show Stacey & Joe offers a glimpse into their family life, but fans have noticed that Joe's eldest son, Harry, is rarely seen. Harry, born in 2007, is Joe's son from his previous relationship with Emma Sophocleous. Unlike his half-siblings Zachary, Leighton, Rex, Rose, and Belle, who appear regularly on Stacey's social media, Harry tends to stay out of the limelight.
Why Harry stays off social media
Stacey Solomon has addressed the frequent comments about Harry's absence from her online posts. In a statement to fans, she explained: "I got loads and loads of comments, and I get these comments quite a lot, asking about all of our children in my photos. Unfortunately it’s not something I’m able to do, otherwise I’d do it all the time. All the kids are a massive part of our lives, obviously, and we love them all equally and adore them and, behind the scenes, they’re very much on every stocking, in every book, in every photo. But publicly that’s not something that I can do and I totally respect that. We respect everyone’s wishes, we’re a blended family and sometimes that’s a bit more complicated than it seems."
Despite his limited online presence, Harry shares a close relationship with his siblings, as seen in occasional photos with Joe and brother Rex. The family dynamic is one of mutual respect, with each member's preferences honoured.
A difficult start: the court battle
Joe Swash has been open about the challenges he faced in his relationship with Harry's mother, Emma Sophocleous. The couple split when Harry was young, and Joe took his ex to court to secure access to his son. Speaking on the Step Life podcast, Joe reflected: "With me and Harry, it was tricky with his mum. We had to go to court and stuff like that. So in hindsight it's a great thing. But it's been a strange one for Hal, he's had to do a lot of adapting. I do feel quite sorry for Hal for what he's had to go through."
He continued: "It's just one of those things, his mum and I weren't agreeing on certain things and we had to go to court. We had to do it that way. And that's what court's there for, to sort things out. And it [did] exactly that. It's changed our lives." Joe also shared the emotional toll, adding: "You know, I always said to my mum, when I was in court fighting for Hal, I wouldn't want to spend my money on anything else apart from wanting to see my kid. And it's the best money I've ever spent."
A bond that grew stronger
In a 2020 interview on the Dadpod, Joe admitted that his split from Emma affected his relationship with Harry for a time. "With my first child, Harry, there was a period where mine and Harry's mum's relationship affected my relationship with him. I didn't get to see him for a period of time, so I missed out on quite a lot. Now, me and my son Hal, we spent all the time together. He's, like, my shadow. I love him, but there was a period where I just couldn't see this happening in the future. So, I did miss out quite a lot of Hal growing up, as a baby."
Today, Joe and Harry talk every day and see each other every couple of days, with Harry living just 20 minutes away. Their bond was evident when Harry visited Joe on the set of Dancing On Ice in 2020, a moment Joe described as "filled me with so much joy". He added: "It was the first time really that I'd done anything, and him be of the age where I can see him being proud of his dad."
What's next for Harry?
While Harry currently stays away from the spotlight, Joe revealed in 2024 that Harry was undertaking work experience with his talent agency. It remains unclear whether Harry will follow in his father's footsteps or pursue a different path. For now, the family continues to navigate their blended life, balancing public appearances with private moments, and Harry's choice to stay out of the public eye is respected by all.
