Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the surprising inspiration behind her son Midas' name, confirming it was not from Greek mythology but from a 2011 film about boxing robots. The influencer and her partner Tommy Fury welcomed their son in June 2026, and the name was first revealed on Tommy's boxing shorts during a recent fight.
Real Steel Inspired the Name
In a recent vlog, Molly-Mae explained that the name Midas came to her after watching the film Real Steel, starring Hugh Jackman. She said: "Midas is not named after the Greek king. This is the most random story. I actually found the name from watching a film called Real Steel. Which is the most random film, it's basically like Transformers. It's like the most not me film ever."
She added: "When I was showing my mum it the other week, she was like, 'this is so like random for you to like this film'. But it's actually such a great film, it's got Hugh Jackman in it and it's a film about robots boxing."
How the Name Stuck
Molly-Mae recalled: "It's a film about boxing robots basically and one of the robots in the film that was boxing was called Midas. This was years ago. I heard the name and I thought, 'wow that's a really cool, strong name'. Like Midas, I've never heard of that before. I just thought 'Midas Fury, wow what a strong name'."
She shared the name with Tommy, who "fell in love with it". The couple had considered the name for a boy for years after she watched the film.
Previous Speculation
Before Midas' birth, Molly-Mae had anticipated that people might struggle with the name, especially after naming their daughter Bambi after the Disney character. The name Midas, associated with a Greek king known for wealth, led many to assume a mythological inspiration, but the true story is far more modern.
