A peacock has taken up residence in a Shropshire garden and shows no signs of leaving, much to the surprise of the homeowner. The bird, which first appeared several weeks ago, has made itself comfortable, strutting around the property and even perching on the roof.
Unexpected Guest
The homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, told BirminghamWorld that the peacock arrived unexpectedly and has since refused to be shooed away. "It just appeared one day and decided this was its home. We've tried everything to encourage it to leave, but it's not having any of it," they said.
The peacock has become a local attraction, with neighbors and passersby stopping to take photos. Despite its beauty, the bird has caused some disruption, including loud calls at dawn and damage to the garden.
Expert Advice
Wildlife experts suggest that the peacock may have escaped from a nearby farm or private collection. Peacocks are known to be territorial and can become attached to a location once they feel settled. The RSPCA advises that if the bird appears healthy, it may be best to leave it alone, as it will eventually move on.
However, the homeowner is concerned about the long-term impact. "It's lovely to look at, but it's not practical. We're worried about the noise and the mess," they added.
Community Reaction
The peacock has garnered mixed reactions from the community. Some find it charming, while others are less amused by the early morning calls. Local residents have taken to social media to share sightings, with many dubbing the bird the "Shropshire Peacock."
As of now, the peacock remains in the garden, and the homeowner is considering contacting local animal rescue services for advice on how to handle the situation.
