Family and friends are gathering to honour an extraordinary milestone as Colin and Audrey Chard of Church Village prepare to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary this March. Both now in their nineties, the devoted couple are commemorating an incredible seven decades of married life together.
A Journey from Cilfynydd to Church Village
Audrey, originally Audrey Johnson, was born and brought up in Wood Street, Cilfynydd, which is also where the pair began their married life. They resided there until the late 1960s, before relocating to Crown Hill and eventually settling in Church Village. Colin, meanwhile, was born and raised in Commercial Street, Tynant, creating a local connection that has spanned generations.
A Meeting at the Coronation Dance Hall
The couple first encountered each other at the Coronation Dance Hall in Pontypridd back in 1954, a venue that has since vanished from the landscape. They later tied the knot at Rehoboth Baptist Chapel in Cilfynydd on March 10, 1956, a chapel that has also disappeared over the years. Despite these changes, their marriage has steadfastly endured, proving resilient against the passage of time.
A Rare and Royal Recognition
Achieving a platinum wedding anniversary is an exceptionally rare feat, highlighting the couple's lasting bond.
