Morgan Rogers has posted an emotional parting message to Aston Villa after completing his transfer to Chelsea. Rogers has departed Villa Park for Stamford Bridge in a British record £117m transfer.
Emotional farewell
In a video message on Instagram, he said: “Villans, where do I start? I’m just a Birmingham kid that was able to represent the biggest team in the city and that is a proud moment for me and something that will always live with me. Thank you for taking me in from day one and allowing me to be me and allowing me to express myself.”
Memorable silverware
Rogers leaves Villa having memorably helped the club end its long wait for silverware last season, scoring in the Europa League final as Unai Emery’s side beat SC Freiburg. “To lift that trophy in Istanbul on that night with the team was something that will forever live with me and I’m always grateful of the opportunities that I was given here and it will always be one of the proudest moments in my career,” he added.
Gratitude to teammates and fans
“Thank you to my teammates as it was a pleasure to come in every day with the changing room full of joy and laughter and it made it a great place and a great environment to work in and a successful one as we pushed each other and fulfilled our potential as a team. I will miss you all. And finally, the fans, you’ve stuck by me through the good and the bad and that means everything to me. Every time I went to Villa Park and put on that shirt I gave everything and I was replicated with how you supported me and helped me through all of the times and we enjoyed some special moments together. This isn’t a goodbye, this is a see you soon. I love you all.”
