Sheffield Circle of Magicians Invites New Members for 106th Year

The Sheffield Circle of Magicians, a historic club founded in 1920, is actively seeking new members to join its thriving community. This long-standing organisation provides a dedicated space for magicians based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and surrounding areas to connect, exchange ideas, practice their craft, and enhance their skills through collaborative learning.

Special Audition Night Announced

A key opportunity for prospective members is a special audition night scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, starting at 7:30 PM at The Old Queen’s Head in Sheffield. This event marks the beginning of the club's 2026/27 season, which will be its 106th year of operation. Club President Luke Robson emphasised that auditions are a standard part of joining, designed not to intimidate but to allow individuals to share their magic with others in a supportive setting.

Expanding Club Activities and Membership

In the past year, the Sheffield Circle of Magicians has experienced significant growth, with membership numbers reaching their highest levels in a long time and an increased schedule of events. The club's core activities include:

  • Lecture Nights: Featuring visits from well-known magic creators and performers who teach their tricks and techniques.
  • Annual Public Show: Titled 'A Night of Magic,' this event showcases the club's talents to the wider community.
  • Competition Nights: Exclusive events for members to challenge and inspire each other.

Robson highlighted that while the club welcomes aspiring stars, the primary focus is on passion for the art of magic. He stated, "Although we’d love to meet the next Dynamo or Derren Brown, the most important thing is that members care about magic and are passionate about what they do."

Inclusive Environment for All Skill Levels

The Sheffield Circle of Magicians is open to magicians of any skill level, performance style, or personal background, provided they are aged 16 or older. The key criteria are a genuine interest in the art of magic and a commitment to keeping methods secret. The club fosters a safe, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere where enthusiasts can socialise, collaborate, and share ideas freely.

How to Get Involved

Interested individuals are encouraged to reach out for more information or to arrange an audition. Contact can be made through the circle's website or the 'Magicians of Sheffield' Facebook group.
