A mother and daughter from Telford experienced an extraordinary coincidence when they fell pregnant at the same time and gave birth to baby boys just eight weeks apart. Meire Higgins, now 21, discovered she was expecting her first child, Grayson, at age 18. Two months later, her mother Jodie Higgins, 39, also found out she was pregnant. Neither had planned the pregnancies, making the news a huge surprise for both.
Shared Journey Through Pregnancy
The pair attended every hospital appointment together, planned each other's gender reveals, and provided mutual support throughout their pregnancies. Grayson, now two, was born eight weeks before his uncle Roux Bear, also two, and the two boys share an inseparable bond. Meire, who also has a daughter Amiyah, 14 weeks, with partner Callum, 22, described the experience as extremely special and one of the best in her life.
Meire said: "Mum was so excited when I found out I was pregnant, she said she hoped it'd be a boy. Two months later, mum found out she was pregnant as well, she was scared to tell me at first, as she didn't want to take the spotlight off me. I told her not to be silly, and that I wouldn't want to go through pregnancy with anyone else. Being pregnant at the same time as my mum was so special, there's no words to describe how it felt. It's truly the best experience I've ever been through."
Unexpected but Joyful News
Jodie, also mother to a 13-year-old, 10-year-old, and three-year-old, said: "I was very much surprised to find out I was having a baby at the same time as Meire as I wasn't planning on having anymore children. I wanted to enjoy being a nan and thought I was too old to do it again, turns out last time around was the easiest by far. I loved sharing every stage with Meire from scans to growing bumps, shopping for matching outfits for them, seeing my beautiful grandson being born and enjoying newborn cuddles even before my own baby arrived."
Meire discovered her pregnancy in May 2023. Initially scared and nervous, she soon became excited about welcoming a new baby. In July 2023, Jodie learned she was expecting. Although concerned about overshadowing her daughter, Jodie was met with joy from Meire. The family and friends were delighted, especially upon learning both babies were boys, leading to matching outfits.
Support and Bonding
Meire said: "We live really close to each other, so we'd see each other every day." She cherished sharing the journey with her mother, who guided her through different stages. "My mum's my best friend. She had me at 17, so we've always been super close, and we can talk to each other about anything."
Meire gave birth to Grayson on Christmas Day 2025, and exactly two months later, Jodie gave birth to Meire's little brother. The two mums now help each other with childcare, and the boys recently started nursery together. Meire added: "If they struggle to make friends, or are ever bullied, they will always have each other."
