Tragic Mum and Newborn Die in Childbirth

A young mother who tragically died while giving birth to her baby girl has been pictured. Polish national Monika Kubasiewicz, aged 33, had only been residing at a property in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, for a matter of months before she passed away in the early hours of Friday. Her body, along with that of her newborn baby daughter, was discovered by her heartbroken partner.

Details of the Incident

The pair were in a bathroom at their home at Blackthorn Close, Greenhill Village at around 1pm, though investigators believe both deaths occurred several hours earlier. A post-mortem examination on the young mother was conducted on Friday, and it is understood that gardaí are satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Officers also believe her newborn baby died during the birthing process, though they are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination due to take place later this week.

Official Statement

Gardaí released a statement saying: 'Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident at a domestic residence in Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary this Friday afternoon 8th May 2026. A woman in her 30s and an infant were pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene remains preserved for examination. A post-mortem examination will take place, which will determine the course of the investigation.'

Family Background

It is understood Ms Kubasiewicz had moved into the estate with her partner and their two young children, aged four and three, approximately three months ago. The couple had previously lived and operated a shop in Clonmel, also in Tipperary, before losing the business when Covid-19 hit in early 2020. The family had previously spent a period in emergency accommodation before relocating to the property in Carrick-on-Suir.

Community Reaction

Local Sinn Féin councillor David Dunne has urged residents to refrain from speculating about the tragedy. In a Facebook post, he wrote: 'There has been a tragedy in Carrick-on-Suir. I would ask people not to speculate on what happened and not to share anything they are hearing or has been sent to them.' Residents on the estate have been left deeply shocked and saddened by the deaths. Neighbours described Ms Kubasiewicz as a well-known figure in the area, with the family said to have been well-liked within the local community.
