Vogue Williams: Brian McFadden Wasn't 'Husband Material'
Vogue Williams on Brian McFadden marriage 'mistake'

TV and podcast star Vogue Williams has candidly discussed her first marriage to former Westlife singer Brian McFadden, describing their union as a 'mistake' and revealing he wasn't 'husband material'.

The 39-year-old media personality, now happily married to Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, 36, was wed to McFadden for five years before their divorce was finalised in 2017.

Wedding Day Anxiety

In her autobiography Big Mouth, the My Therapist Ghosted Me host revealed she experienced significant anxiety on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life.

'The morning of the wedding I felt very stressed and so anxious because deep down I knew I had made a mistake,' Vogue wrote about her 2012 wedding day.

Despite her misgivings, the mother-of-three attempted to make the relationship work after the ceremony, acknowledging they shared some positive moments together.

The Reality of the Relationship

Vogue reflected that while their relationship 'wasn't all terrible' and McFadden was 'good fun to be around' for the most part, he ultimately lacked the qualities needed for marriage.

'But he was not husband material,' she stated unequivocally in her book.

The Irish presenter eventually initiated the divorce, explaining 'I couldn't keep trying, it felt pointless' and hinting at unforgivable incidents during their marriage without providing specific details.

Moving On and Finding Happiness

This isn't the first time Vogue has spoken about her failed marriage. During a May 2025 appearance on The Life of Bryony podcast, she admitted feeling devastated after the split.

'I remember being divorced at 31 and thinking, I've ruined my life. I am never going to have kids, I am never going to do what I always wanted to do,' she shared.

Her perspective dramatically changed as she built a new life, adding 'Then you see how your life actually starts to unfold – that's why it feels exciting to move into your forties.'

Brian McFadden previously addressed their split in 2018, shortly after Vogue announced her pregnancy with Spencer Matthews, telling Closer magazine that communicating with his ex-wife would be 'pointless' given their new circumstances.

'I am delighted for her and I hope she has a lovely family. [Spencer] is a great guy,' McFadden said at the time.

Vogue married Spencer Matthews in 2018, and the couple now share three children: Theodore, six, Gigi, four, and Otto, two. McFadden is father to daughters Milly-Sue and Lilly with ex-wife Kerry Katona, and shares youngest daughter Ruby with fiancée Danielle Parker.
