State Pensioners Urged to Apply for £305 Winter Heating Bonus Before March 31 Deadline

State pensioners across Scotland are being encouraged to claim a valuable winter heating bonus, with payments of up to £305.10 available before the fast-approaching deadline on March 31, 2026. The Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, introduced specifically in Scotland, offers crucial financial support to retirees during the colder months.

Application Process and Eligibility Requirements

Social Security Scotland has already distributed more than 1,009,000 payments since late November, with individual amounts set at £101.70, £203.40, or £305.10. While the majority of eligible individuals over age 66 have received payments automatically, certain groups must proactively apply.

The exact payment amount depends on several factors, including age, household circumstances, and UK residency during the qualifying week of September 15-21, 2025. To be eligible, individuals must have been born before September 22, 1959, with an annual income not exceeding £35,000.

Payment breakdown by age group:

  1. Pensioners in residential care: £101.70
  2. Those aged 66-79: £203.40
  3. Individuals aged 80 or over: £305.10

Social Security Scotland continues to issue payments throughout the winter months, using data provided by the Department for Work and Pensions. The program represents a significant support mechanism for older residents facing heating costs during challenging economic times.
