Birmingham sexual health nurse Chevanique has spoken out against a relentless wave of online abuse following her appearance on the third series of Netflix's Love Is Blind UK. In a series of emotional Instagram Stories posts, she said she was "being swarmed with hate comments nonstop" across every platform she appears on, and added: "I honestly don't believe this is even about the show anymore."
Love triangle and reunion fallout
Chevanique found herself at the centre of a love triangle during her time on the show. The third series wrapped up recently, with its much-anticipated reunion episode landing on August 30. All four couples who made it to the altar confirmed they were still together, a result that left fans celebrating across social media.
Chevanique appeared in the reunion and revealed she is still single and continuing her search for love. But it is what has happened since the cameras stopped rolling that has prompted her to speak out.
'I never asked to be brought into a situation'
In her Instagram Stories, Chevanique addressed those who have sought to define her experience, hitting out at those wanting to "tear me down" before admitting: "I went on this experiment for one reason only — to find love like everyone else. I am not the first Black woman to go on a dating show and express my feelings, and I won't be the last."
She continued: "I carried myself with grace, and I left with my head held high. No matter how things are portrayed online, I never did anything to jeopardise anyone else's connection, regardless of what you may think."
Chevanique was equally direct when addressing those who had drawn her into drama she says she never sought out. "I minded my own business until my name was brought up," she wrote. "I never asked to be brought into a situation I never wanted to be a part of. The truth is, people had issues with me long before I left the pods. That's the real tea."
Call for decency, not silence
The nurse, who works in Birmingham, went further still, calling out what she described as the "truly disgusting" nature of the abuse. Despite the strength of her words, Chevanique made clear she is not asking for opinions to be silenced — only for basic decency to be observed.
"You're allowed to have your opinions about the show, but that's not an excuse to be nasty," she said. "Do not bring me down in the process. I stood in my truth, I was vulnerable, and I walked away with integrity. That's all that matters to me."
