Shooting at City Industrial Estate
Gavin Parry, a 31-year-old alleged member of the Burger Bar Boys gang, was shot dead at City Industrial Estate in Winson Green on April 13, 2021. The incident occurred after Parry returned to an auto repair unit wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying a Second World War machine gun. He was shot twice in the head before he could fire his weapon.
Community Reaction
Following the killing, community leader Bishop Dr Desmond Jaddoo stated that gun violence in Birmingham was the 'worst it has ever been'. Parry had been described as 'wildly out-of-control' and had previous convictions for pointing a shotgun at police.
Investigation and Trials
After nearly two years of investigation, brothers Theo and Remell Bailey were arrested along with Dante Kalsi. Court proceedings revealed Parry had arrived on a stolen quad bike before leaving and returning armed after a dispute. Theo Bailey was convicted of manslaughter and jailed for 22 years, whilst Kalsi was found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
Unidentified Gunman
Despite multiple trials and arrests, the actual gunman has never been identified. Investigators faced a 'wall of silence' reminiscent of the Burger Bar Boys' deadly reign decades earlier. One witness described Parry as: "He's like a school bully. He throws his weight around. What he says goes."
