Midlands Paedophile Jailed After Sending Explicit Messages to Undercover Officer
Paedophile Jailed for Sending Explicit Messages to Officer

A Midlands paedophile who believed he was communicating with a young schoolgirl has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after his online conversations were actually with an undercover police officer. Neil Wilson, 46, formerly of Osmaston Walk in Mansfield, engaged in sexually explicit chats with the officer in an online chatroom, continuing even after being told the recipient was just 13 years old and requesting explicit photographs.

Arrest and Evidence

Police arrested Wilson at his home on December 14, 2023, seizing his devices. Forensic examination uncovered the incriminating messages alongside a significant cache of indecent images. Authorities found 25 category A images, the most severe classification, along with six category B and 80 category C images.

Charges and Guilty Plea

Wilson admitted multiple offences, including inciting a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting sexual communication with a child, and possession of extreme pornographic images. He also pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

Sentence and Court Orders

At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, May 8, Wilson received a 15-year sentence comprising eight years in custody and an extended seven-year licence period. The court also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and required Wilson to register as a sex offender for life.

Police Statement

Detective Constable Oliver Pemberton of Nottinghamshire Police condemned Wilson's behaviour, stating: 'Wilson’s actions were completely disgraceful, and it was thanks to the fantastic work of officers that he was exposed. Keeping children safe from harm means keeping them safe from people like Wilson who attempt to prey on them online where they think nobody can see what they are doing.' He praised the victim's strength throughout the investigation and lengthy court process, adding: 'I hope this result helps give the victim and their family some closure and also serves as a warning to others about the consequences of such depraved behaviour.'
