Brian Guest, a 67-year-old convicted sex offender from Walsall, has been handed a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for indecently assaulting a schoolgirl, but will not spend any additional time in custody. Judge Talog Davies, sitting at Wolverhampton Crown Court, ordered the term to run concurrently with Guest's existing 22-year sentence, meaning his overall time in prison remains unchanged.
Background and previous convictions
Guest was jailed for 22 years at Stafford Crown Court in January 2024 after being convicted of a string of sexual offences committed between 1980 and 2018. Those offences included two counts of rape of a female aged 16 or over, three counts of indecent assault of a female under 14, five counts of sexual assault of a female under 13, and one count of rape of a child under 13. The offences came to light in 2022 and were tried in June 2023.
In August, Guest was brought back before a judge after it emerged he had sexually assaulted another victim when she was a schoolgirl. The latest victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, told her sister about the abuse as an adult. The assault took place between 1998 and 2000, when the victim was a child. She reported the ordeal to police, and Guest was arrested in 2022.
Court proceedings and sentencing
Dean Easthope, defending, told the court that Guest was interviewed about this offence while in custody at HMP Birmingham in February 2023. He later received a postal requisition notifying him of a prosecution in July 2025. Guest was subsequently convicted of indecent assault.
Sentencing on August 17, Judge Talog Davies said the offence "could have been and should have been tried at the same time" as the offences for which Guest was jailed in 2023. He added: "This offence pre-dates the other matters which you have already been sentenced for." The judge sentenced Guest to two years and six months, to run concurrently with his current sentence, meaning he will spend no extra time in jail and his overall sentence will remain at 22 years.
Victim impact and personal circumstances
In a statement read to the court, the woman described how she has experienced mental health difficulties since her teenage years due to Guest's abuse. She said she was "constantly in trouble" with her parents after the assault because she did not know "how to cope". She feels "scared" that the sex offender, formerly of Walsall, will be freed from jail and she will "bump into him". His offending has left her feeling "suspicious of everybody and everyone", the court heard. She said: "I do not want anybody to know anything about me whatsoever." The woman also described how she rarely leaves her home without her partner.
Mr Easthope told the court that Guest, who appeared via video link from HMP Birmingham, is a "model prisoner" and is on a wing for "vulnerable" inmates. He was previously employed as a "removal worker", travelling "all over Europe" for his job. Guest, who has four convictions for 15 offences, also worked as a forklift driver and in a warehouse. Mr Easthope said Guest is "not a man of good health" as he has diabetes, high cholesterol, and previously underwent a triple heart bypass.
