Sarah Thomas and her husband Les are preparing to take on the biggest challenge of their lives: running the Snowdonia Trail Marathon in memory of their first rescue dog, Finley (Fin), who came from North Clwyd Animal Rescue (NCAR). Sarah joined the NCAR Trustees Committee earlier this year and quickly realized how much funding is needed—not only to care for and rehome animals but also to urgently renovate kennels and facilities to support the long waiting list of animals waiting to enter their care.
The Marathon Details
The marathon takes place on Sunday, July 12, and covers 27 miles of iconic and spectacular trails, ascending 1,685 metres before finishing atop Wales' highest peak, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). The couple will face tough climbs, difficult terrain, and unpredictable mountain weather. They train most days, fitting in runs, strength training, and hill reps around their work schedules.
Dedication to NCAR
They are dedicated to achieving this for NCAR and promoting the incredible work the staff and volunteers do every day. It's not an easy environment to work in and can be an emotional rollercoaster, especially when hearing the stories of animals coming into their care.
