Phyllis Tuckwell's Cranleigh shop serves as a vibrant heart of the village, providing an extensive selection of pre-loved clothing, shoes, accessories, books, music, and homeware. Many loyal customers return frequently, attracted by the welcoming atmosphere and ever-changing inventory that keeps the shopping experience fresh and exciting.
Urgent Call for Volunteer Support
The shop is currently supported by a team of dedicated volunteers, but there is now an urgent need for additional help. Julia Morpeth, voluntary services manager at Phyllis Tuckwell, emphasized the critical role of volunteers, stating, "Our retail volunteers are so important and bring so much knowledge and skill to our shops. Our Cranleigh shop needs extra hands to serve customers, sort donations, price items, and arrange them in eye-catching displays."
Supporting Palliative and End-of-Life Care
Phyllis Tuckwell is a charity dedicated to offering palliative and end-of-life care for patients and families dealing with advanced or terminal illnesses. Each day, it assists over 250 individuals through a comprehensive range of services, including medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice, and practical support.
All these services are provided free of charge. However, with NHS and government funding covering only approximately 25% of the total costs, the charity heavily depends on fundraising efforts to sustain its operations.
Vital Fundraising Through Retail
The charity operates 18 shops across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire, which play a significant role in generating essential funds. In Cranleigh alone, the shop raises more than £160,000 annually, contributing directly to the continuation of these vital care services.
