After last week's blistering heat, this week's walks were enjoyed in perfect walking weather – cooler, with a nice breeze, and no mud. On Wednesday, 12 ramblers completed a 10-mile walk from Belmont Village over Darwen Moor, offering excellent views including Belmont Reservoir. The group also visited the atmospheric ruins of Hollinshead Hall, built in 1776, where only the well house remains as a preserved building.
Sunday Walk from Ainsworth
On Sunday, 11 walkers embarked on a six-mile walk from Ainsworth, taking in delightful reservoir scenery along the way. The itinerary also included Barrack Fold Farm, which has connections to the Civil War.
Upcoming Walks
Sunday, June 7 – Brindle to Johnson's Hillock
On Sunday, June 7, the group will set off from Brindle, near Chorley, for a 7/8 mile walk through Denham Quarry and up to Hough Hill, before following stretches of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. This will include the oddly-named Johnson's Hillock, a flight of seven locks. The walk should finish by around 2pm, leaving plenty of time for family activities. All are welcome to join.
Wednesday, June 10 – Ripponden to Norland Moor
On Wednesday, June 10, a 10/11 mile walk from Ripponden will take the Calderdale Way to Norland Moor and Greetland Moor, with excellent views guaranteed in good weather.
